BCTI (Bible Church Training Institute)

The BCTI is an adult learning and skills training programme geared towards providing sound, solid and stimulating education for adults, to facilitate the development of Christian character and maturity and to equip them for the ministry and mission of the church.

It consists of four schools, viz., the School of Discipleship (SOD), School of Ministry (SOM), School of Continuing Education (SCE), and the School of Leadership (SOL).

The School of Discipleship (SOD) seeks to help (new) followers of Christ by establishing them in the foundations of faith (Christian beliefs) and giving them practical knowledge and skills needed for a journey of lifelong discipleship.

SOD covers three major themes of discipleship: Scripture, salvation and maturity. Each module consists of 8-10 weekly sessions, and topics covered include: How to read the Bible every day, an overview of the Old and New Testaments, personal Bible study skills, salvation and the finished work of Christ, growth in the context of community, Christian stewardship, how to be a witness at home and at work. The sessions take place on a weekday evening from 6.30 – 9.30 pm, including dinner.

In 2017, SOD launched a new module entitled SOD: Making Disciples, demarcating it from the above modules, which is now called SOD: Being Disciples. SOD Making Disciples focuses on how to make disciples through the knowledge of discipleship essentials and foundations, stages of maturity and practical skills of how to make disciples, one-on-one Bible Reading and other Bible study methods, the art of listening and journeying with others.

The School of Ministry (SOM) seeks to provide an avenue where we intentionally mentor maturing believers to deepen an understanding of their identity in Christ and their unique personality (with its gifts and inclinations), what it takes to be a healthy psycho-spiritual leader, and how to cultivate good habits or disciplines so that they will be able to serve effectively and grow through their service.

The SOM involves a three-Saturday training session for our members to live out their faith practically and to be involved in service and ministry through teaching and training sessions, on-the-job exposure, and small group mentoring.

The BCTI School of Continuing Education (SCE) seeks to provide a comprehensive platform for continuing learning and growth for adult disciples. There are several main “divisions”:

  • Biblical Studies (Old & New Testaments)
  • Pulpit-related Topics & Studies
  • Christian Theology & Church History
  • Contemporary & Inter-disciplinary Studies

Each division will have modules offered from two to six weeks at every quarter of the year. They will be led and facilitated by the pastoral staff, lay and marketplace leaders who are educated and experienced in these subjects or areas. Specific modules will be advertised via The Bible Church weekly bulletin and e-flyers.

In 2017 we launched a Foundations Track series which seeks to ground believers with a clear understanding of God’s Word in a succinct and yet comprehensive way. Two courses of 7-8 weeks are offered each year (for 7 years), which will cover the whole Bible as well as key doctrines.

The School of Leadership (SOL) aims to equip leaders in an intentional, systematic and structured way. It was launched in 2015 with the youth leaders as the first group of participants. From 2016, teaching and dialogue sessions (or “leadership conversations”) took place with a group of “emerging leaders” (those in the present leadership and ministry teams as well as those with the potential of joining the Church Council or as a staff). These Leadership Conversations serve as platforms where we engage with potential leaders to give them a better understanding and appreciation of leadership in ministries and in the church.
